Supt James Bent was a Victorian Policeman who organised a soup kitchen for the poor children of Old Trafford, in the Drill Hall of Old Trafford Police Station during the severe winter of 1878. He arranged to feed 20 children on the first day, on the second day 180 arrived for food and by the third day 580 children turned up for food. From then on the numbers rose and Supt Bent fed thousands of starving children over the years, so his dedication has been recognised by a Blue Plaque.
Children from King's Road attended the ceremony outside 530, Stretford Road, on Friday 26th March. Our local Police Community Support Officer, Mr Shaw, who is also a School Governor, was dessed up as a Victorian Policeman for the event. He looked fantastic!!
