School Meals

Free school meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 automatically qualify for a Free School Meal under the universal scheme, regardless of the qualifying criteria for Free School Meals being met.  However, if a parent of a child in any school year (Reception to Year 6) meets the qualifying criteria (usually being in receipt of benefits) for Free School Meals this can raise extra funding for your child’s school in order to help support your child’s learning. If you are unsure as to whether you meet the criteria then please visit the following link (or scan the QR code) which will advise you of the criteria for eligibility when you click ‘start a new application’;

The universal offer of free school meals for all children in KS1 finishes once the children start Year 3 (KS2).  This means that from Year 3 onwards you will be required to pay for your child’s school meals unless you are entitled to free school meals.  In order to benefit from free school meals, if you think you are eligible, just follow the process as indicated above. You will need the following information;

  • Parents full name / DOB / Relationship to child
  • National insurance number or national asylum support service reference number
  • Contact email address / telephone number / Address information
  • Child’s full name / DOB / gender / school year

Once you have completed the application, school will automatically be advised as to whether your child is eligible or not for free school meals.

Should you have any queries or questions then please do not hesitate to contact the School Office on 0161 881 3571.

Here at Kings Road Primary School we use an online system called ‘SCHOOL GRID’ for the ordering and payment of school meals.

When we confirm your child’s / childrens’ start date, we will add their information to our School Grid account. Parent ‘1’ will then receive an email from School grid which contains a link for you to select and thereafter you need to follow the instructions to create your School Grid account.  The link must be used within 24 hours. Do not worry if you miss this time frame, another email can always be sent.

If you have more than one child in school, all children should appear on the one account. If you have any children join our school at a later date, they will be added to your account for you.

The below is a link which introduces parents to School Grid;
